Windows on Bridge

This new project is all about bringing art and creativity into the empty shops on Bridge Street.  With the Bridge to Better reconstruction continuing until July 2027, businesses are struggling and we all need that little extra incentive to walk around this part of Nelson. This is where art can make a difference! 

Windows on Bridge is a series of art installations in empty shops, most to be viewed from the footpath. We’ll be rolling out Windows on Bridge over the next six months or so – stay tuned!

In July/August 2026 we have three projects:

• Matariki – check out the corner of Bridge and Trafalgar (in the old Westpac building) for four displays honouring the past, celebrating the present, and planting the seeds for the future.
• Green Shoots – seven local women artists have loaned some artworks to bring colour and drama to the lower end of Bridge St, opposite the Nelson Mail building. 
• The Child Who – Anne Braunsteiner has created vibrant artwork using vinyl offcuts, on the windows next to Gravity Bikes. It was quite a jigsaw-esque challenge!
