Fleur Woods is a local artist based in Upper Moutere.

The installation is a high quality photo of one of Fleur’s original artworks.

Fleur describes the style of her work as ‘Stitched Paintings’. Her process begins with painting a blank piece of linen in abstract washes, and then adding botanical and illustrative details with acrylic paint, gouache and/or ink. Finally, she finishes the top layer with stitching to give the works texture.

Coming to stitch as a mixed-media artist, Fleur has taught herself a variety of embroidery techniques that don’t follow traditional embroidery guides, but are perfect for the kind of mark-making she enjoys creating.

For Fleur, stitch has become an obsession that marries her love of detail, colour, and texture (and allows hours of quiet reflection and podcast binging!).

When she’s not in the studio Fleur is often traveling and teaching workshops, sharing her self-taught process, and meeting like-minded floral lovers to make her heart sing.
