I’ve been making art for most of my life. I’ve recently arrived in Nelson after living overseas for 20 years. I currently utilise the studio space at Magenta which has allowed me to continue my work.

Allison Tuckwell and is a mixed medium artist.

A common thread running through Allison’s work is the idea of connection to place. Largely in mixed mediums on paper and canvas with recurring motifs which include maps, the night sky, houses, fish and birds. Allison uses these motifs in the exploration of the themes of place and identity which run throughout her body of work.

Huge love to Magenta Creative Space – it’s well worth dropping in to see what they do. Magenta is Nelson’s only free, drop-in, fully resourced arts studio for people with lived experience of mental distress, no referral is required.

Many people have found their involvement in Magenta is key to their improved wellbeing. Magenta has a philosophy of inclusion and connection.

Thanks to Nelson City Council for supporting this project.
