It’s not rocket science – we all know that little actions can have a big impact.
A clean, vibrant city starts with each of us noticing and caring for the spaces we share. Just by picking up rubbish and disposing of it responsibly, we help protect the beauty and integrity of our community. Small actions, like recycling correctly or tidying up after ourselves in public areas, create a ripple effect that inspires others to do the same.
When we take initiative instead of assuming ‘someone else will do it,’ we not only keep our city looking its best, but also foster a sense of pride and respect for the place we call home.
Go on, during Spring Clean, put a bit of effort into making a contribution, and then see if you can create a lasting positive habit.
Here’s some ideas for starters:
- Every month, slip on some gloves, grab a rubbish bag and do a circuit or a local park or walkway – it’ll make a real difference.
- If you have a few extra veges in your garden or the lemon tree is going a bit berserk, drop them off at Victory Community Centre
- Don’t have a garden but like getting your hands dirty? Consider lending a hand at Waimarama Community Garden.
- Check out Nelson Forest & Bird for lovers of our feathered friends
- Once you start googling around, you’ll find there are dozens of established community groups that are regenerating, trapping, maintaining, recycling, sharing information and generally just making our world a better place to be in.
