Rachel Promthat’s tasty creation has the perfect home in Nelson’s own ‘eat street’.
Rachel has painted a delectable dish of Tom Yum noodle soup, as it is one of Thailand’s most popular dishes. The artwork is not just about Thailand’s signature dish, but it also reflects Thai identity.
My inspiration for this artwork is that I am originally from Thailand. I also work at my parent’s Thai restaurant and we have Tom Yum noodle soup on the menu. I know that when the customers order this, they love it! Plus this is the signature dish from our country, so I would like to share and show people that this is our delicious food and they really should try it.
Rachel came to New Zealand with her family in 2023, and is currently studying at Nelson College for Girls and working.
I really enjoy living in Nelson because this city has nice people and a wonderful environment. The thing I love most about Nelson is that there are a lot of different cultures – it’s a real highlight of Nelson – and that there are many kinds of food from different countries.
Thank you to Karolina Serrano for supporting and helping me create my very first artwork of my own. Best of all, it’s not for just keeping it in my house or somewhere people cannot see it, but for making it for everyone to see.
Huge thanks to NEL (Nelson Electricity Limited) for supporting our artists to transform their boxes!
