As part of Spring Clean Whakatū Nelson, two new outdoor artworks were commissioned, and now, we have a heap more in the pipeline!
ArtHouse commissioned artist/ architect Richard Sellars to paint the roller door in their laneway, and the result is a stunner! from graffiti to oh so cool!
Thanks Richard – what’s not to love!
Richard’s artwork is in the laneway behind the ArtHouse building at 3 Haven Rd, Nelson.
And then Theatre Royal Nelson got in touch, wanting a refresh for the little metal box that sits just outside the theatre. So Make/Shift Spaces joined forces with Arts Council Nelson to commission a site-specific work by Nelson artist Karolina Serrano (Santalma Art).
Eliane Polack and the team at the theatre wanted something that reflected the performing arts, and are delighted that Karolina included music notes, opera glasses, a bouquet, red curtains, and of course, those iconic comedy/tragedy masks.
Karolina was selected because of her previous experience as a performer in her native Columbia and her experience in painting a Chorus box (on Waimea Rd).
Huge thanks to Karolina, and big theatrical hugs and kisses to our private donor for making this happen.
Karolina’s artwork is beside the Theatre Royal, 78 Rutherford St, Nelson.
