Spring Clean Whakatū Nelson is a community-led campaign that encourages city-users to have a sense of pride and ownership of our city.
Spring Clean encourages our community to be proactive in enhancing the look and feel of the city through simple maintenance, creative improvements, and everyday care. The aim is to make Whakatū Nelson a more welcoming and vibrant place to live, work, and visit.

The main focus for Spring Clean 2025 was on cleaning and gardening, but there was also lots of painting, graffiti removal, poster/sticker removal, re-staining, repairing and replacing, artwork installing, and general improvements to the look of our city.
Around 40 businesses and property owners took the time and effort to make Nelson a better place. Click here to see a list of all the projects.
Brian Riley, Chair of the Make/Shift Spaces Trust, said, “Spring Clean is about raising awareness that businesses and property owners can use their own initiative to make the city a better place for everyone.
“We all hear the talk about ‘city revitalisation’, and Spring Clean is about taking practical actions for an impactful result. We know, that as a result of Spring Clean 2025, the city looks better.”
