What’s happening in 2025

We’ve been inundated with projects that are happening around the city – here’s the evergrowing list:

What’s happened already:
– Angel Gardeners have refreshed the giant planters at the Bridge St Bus Depot, as well as along upper Bridge St
Lambretta’s Cafe Bar replaced their awning and gave the windows a extra thorough clean
Thompson Property Group cleaned and painted the Montgomery Arcade walkway between Hardy St & Montgomery Square
– There’s been a long-term project along Selwyn Place with the gardens being replanted, Thompson Property Group painting the facade, two ArtWorks and three ArtDoors and more – more info here.
Project 100 have completely transformed their front courtyard with seating, a garden and a bike rack
Two Dollar Things Store cleaned their frontage and painted out some tagging
Red Art Gallery Design Store & Cafe refreshed their planter boxes with perennials
RMM Landscape Architects got down and dirty and completely transformed the gardens beds outside the Nelson English Centre. The cleared out all the dead foliage and rubbish, topped up the beds with compost, and then planted a selection of hardy plants including natives and succulents that will thrive in that spot. Finally, they replaced the pebbles, swept up, and gave the brickwork around the beds a quick clean. Big thanks to Vibrant Earth Plants for helping out with the plants.

What’s coming up:
– Angel Gardeners will replant the gardens alongside Nelson Library as well as across the road in the old Petrol Station on Halifax St
– Bank Lane is getting a complete wash down (this is a massive operation!) as well as the bench seats getting a repaint (at the Montgomery Square end)
CLM will be cleaning up both Rutherford Park and Isel Park
Whakatū Kids Co-op will be painting their planter boxes and replanting for along Selwyn Place
– A makeover is planned for the carpark on New St, in between Downtown Backpackers and Liquorland
– Nelson Provincial Museum are cleaning the footpaths and restaining the seating outside the museum
The Suter Art Gallery are creating a garden around the artwork alongside the entrance
Peta Spooner Dance & Community Art Works will wash the buildings, tidy and replant their gardens, and repaint the fence so that they can hang some outdoor artworks
YMCA’s Nelson Training Centre on Vanguard St will be sprucing up their outside area. Go along and check it out on Thursdays when they serve up tasty and cheap lunches. Follow them on Facebook. Yummy!
