We transformed a building! The Selwyn Place project came together with an incredible team of cleaners, planters, artist, plant-donators, business-owners, painters and, most importantly, a property owner who could see the value of a spruce-up!
It all started in Spring Clean 2024, when we gathered some of the tenants along Selwyn Place joining in the gardening project for Spring Clean 2024 – it was a fabulous start! Big thanks to Magenta Creative Space, Nelson Taxis, VenueTech, Mr Music and to Beneficiaries & Unwaged Workers Trust (who now supply a gardener to keep things looking tidy). And to the good folk at Nelmac, who made things look super official.

And then Thompson Property Group painted the building black – so cool!
Nelson Taxis joined in by running a kids competition to get some very funky drawings of taxis. They used these as part of a complete facelift of their premises – lookin’ sharp! You can see the taxi drawings above the door, and along the walkway through to Crisps Lane.

Next step was Magenta Creative Space putting up a couple of murals by local artists Alicia Rocha and Allison Tuckwell, followed by an ArtDoor by Samara Davis.
And finally, in September 2025, we installed three more ArtDoors by Karolina Serrano, Audrey Anderson and Tim Cuff, and the whole building looks amazing! We really encourage you to take a stroll and enjoy the transformation.

Big thanks to Marika and Paul from Speedy Signs Nelson for doing such a terrific job, and to Tim Cuff at Nelson Creative for the photos.
